Dear David, We write with many words of thanks for all that you have done for Ryan. He has learned a lot about hard work, commitment and of course, basketball. His love of the game has grown, as well as his respect for those who play it. You always seemed to make the extra effort with Ryan, not only as his coach, but as his friend. He respects you and always tried to give you 110%. The boys always played with such heart, not just for themselves, but for you too. Always remember that someday the world may be different, because you were important in the life of a child! Thank you for all you rime and effort! - Diane & Jay Magnuson
I would recommend the WINS For Life basketball program to any basketball group looking to advance their knowledge of basketball and life skills. – Andy Roger, Recreation Director, South Hadley, Ma.
The WINS For Life Basketball Clinics are top notch. Coach Vasquenza connects very well with the kids, including effective use of his quality lectures and fun drills. Values and Integrity are emphasized throughout the drills, subject matter, and various competitions. – Sal Puleo, Stow, Ma.
Coach Vasquenza laid the foundation for my son Michael early in his basketball career. Without Coach Dave’s belief in Michael at such an early age, and without his motivation and guidance, I am not sure that Michael would have achieved at such a high level. Michael went on to a distinguished career at Western New England College where he led them to two NCAA Tournaments and two GNAC Championship titles, while becoming a 1,000 point scorer and WNEC’s all-time assists leader. Michael’s early years with Coach Vasquenza were most instrumental. He not only taught him the many basketball skills, but also many life skills. - Bob O’Connor Farmington, CT.
Dear Coach David, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your basketball program. My girls looked forward to “basketball day” every Saturday. As a mother of a special needs child, I stress out every season trying to find a program that will allow my daughter to “fit in”. Her size and age vs. her ability level make it a difficult job with every activity. Yet I want to keep her active in the community and allow her to excel at her own rate. You were excellent at meeting every child's needs throughout this program! You were constantly motivating and rewarding each child. You have a great ability to teach through humor, while keeping good control of the group. My youngest daughter, who has great athletic potential, was continually challenged. She keeps asking when the snow will melt so she can get her basketball out from under the snow pile. She can’t wait to practice. Thank you for running a great basketball program. Not only did my children walk away with a great introduction to the game, but I also picked up a few tips! I hope we will see you again for next season. - Tammy Domian
Dear David, I would like to take this time to “thank you” for the outstanding job you have done coaching youth basketball. My son, Adam, has been part of the Tuesday evening group of kids and has enjoyed himself. He has always loved playing basketball and now also has a new respect for the sport and the power of teamwork. You have a wonderful way of making the kids at ease while teaching the basic skills of basketball with a most impressive ability to communicate with his age group (7yrs. old) in a positive reinforcing way. I think you have done a great job. Any organization you are associated with should consider you an asset. Many thanks for a fun 8 weeks of basketball for Adam! - Sincerely, Lucie Solomon
My son Luke was in your basketball class for six-year olds. I would like to thank you for being his coach. Luke had a wonderful experience and from my observations your coaching style is the best I have ever seen. I have two daughters ages 16 and 12 who have been playing sports since they were four. (So, I’ve seen a lot of coaches). You not only teach the game of basketball, you incorporate values, treat the kids with respect, build self-esteem and make it fun; all at the same time. I would be happy for Luke to be on your team anytime. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Donna Philiponna
My son participated in the 6 year old basketball program. The children were coached by David Vasquenza, who did a wonderful job interacting with the group, both boys and girls. Not only did Mr. Vasquenza introduce the kids to the world of basketball basics, he also taught them about some more important things, such as good sportsmanship and respect for one another. I would recommend the program to anyone who has a young child who is getting started in Basketball. - Sincerely, Scott Blair
I have known David for the past season as the coach of the instructional basketball program through the Tolland Recreation Department. His positive attitude and dedication to children are reflected in the outstanding work he has done with this organization. David is extremely energetic, is well organized, and is always well prepared. He has an excellent rapport with children, was very patient, and always treated the children with respect. The children in his program loved to come to class, and did surprisingly well for their age (5-7) and experience level. David would be a valuable asset to a children’s sports organization. I recommend him without any reservation. Sincerely, Linda Byam
Dear Coach Vasquenza, My son Peter Miller participated in the Tolland Rec. Basketball program. He thoroughly enjoyed all your classes. I was able to attend most practices and observed your coaching skills. You are a GREAT coach... very patient, good drills, able to keep the kids' attention and teach good sports ethics. Thanks again! - Jenny Miller
Dear Dave, Expressions of thanks are not shared as often as I feel they should be. I hope this note tells you how much I appreciate all that you have done for Paul…and our family! You have a lot going for you, including your open communication, which is a special quality that you have with the kids and the adults. Your knowledge of basketball, your enthusiasm and dedication to the kids are qualities that I haven’t seen in many coaches, if any. You GIVE so much – I wanted to let you know that it doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated. Thanks! - Sincerely, Kathy Walker
Dear David, I would like to tell you how impressed I was with your techniques on teaching primarily eight– year olds the fundamentals of basketball. Not only did you teach them at a level that they where able to understand, you also built upon the basic skills and up to the next levels needed for them to proceed on to more challenging games. What impressed me the most was how you included a few life lessons along the way. You talked about team work and how it should be used not only in basketball but also at school and within the family unit. Other values you mentioned were communication and integrity. These are valuable lessons in life and not only in sports. You discussed items such as this at the end of every training session with your students. It’s a tough job keeping their attention, keeping them focused and motivated, but you did it! I again want to thank you and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Thank-you, Sheila M.
